Our Butterflies

We bring a wide range of colourful butterflies for you to admire, feed and interact with including wanderers, eggflies, blue tigers and more; all of which are native to Australia!

Exactly which species of butterflies are avaliable for your event will depend on the time of the year amongst other factors.

Our butterflies are our family so we go to great effort to ensure all of our butterflies are locally and ethically sourced, and looked after in the best possible conditions.

Monarch

Scientific name: Danaus plexippus

The monarch butterfly lives in America, some pacific Islands, India, Western Europe as well as Australia. They are one of the most recognisable and well known butterflies. The monarch is astoundingly able to migrate 2500 miles from its breeding ground!

Orchard Swallowtail

Scientific name: Papilio aegeus

The orchard swallowtail can be found along the east coast of Australia and Papa New Guinea . They feed on citrus leaves which makes them very unique!

Orange lacewing

Scientific name: Cethosia penthesilea

The orange lacewing butterfly is native to Southeast Asia as well as Australia's Northern Territory. It is a smaller butterfly with its wings only spanning 7cm!

Common Eggfly

Scientific name: Hypolimnas bolina

The common eggfly otherwise known as the great eggfly, varied eggfly or blue moon can be found from Madagascar to Asia and Australia. The "egg" in its name refers to the white dot on its wings.

Red lacewing

Scientific name: Cethosia biblis

The red lacewing can be found in sub-tropical forests. They are most active in the morning where they search and feed on nectar.

Cruiser

Scientific name: Vindula

The cruiser butterfly can be found in southeast Asia and Australia. The male and female can be easily distinguished by their colour. Pictured above is a female. By contrast the male cruiser is a consistent golden colour.

Blue tiger

Scientific name: Tirumala Hamata

The blue tiger is native to south east Asia and Australia. Butterflies of this group are the longest lived of all butterfly species.

Lurcher

Scientific name: Yoma Sabina

The lurcher can be found in the tropical regions of northern Australia as well as Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. Though not poisonous, it protects itself from predators by mimicking poisonous creatures with its bright yellow stripe across its wings!
